Course Information:
Those involved in criminal investigations may at some stage be required to undertake the role of disclosure officer. It is therefore important that officers are equipped with the essential skills to manage unused material, whether it is non-sensitive, sensitive or highly sensitive.
This CPD accredited course has been designed as an introduction for officers involved in criminal investigations, specifically those who act as disclosure officer as defined in the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act (CPIA) 1996.
Too often failings in disclosure result in cases collapsing, miscarriages of justice or criticism from the courts. Even if you are not assigned the role of disclosure officer, it is important for you to have an understanding of what is required in order to comply.
The course is a half-day introductory course and can be delivered both virtually and in-person.
Audience:
This course has been designed as an introduction to CPIA and is suitable for any individual who has responsibility for gathering material, conducting reasonable lines of enquiry in accordance with CPIA, and prosecuting criminal offences. This includes investigators, disclosure officers, intelligence officers, prosecuting lawyers, team leaders and managers.
We also provide a one-day “Understanding Disclosure: Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act 1996” course which is suited to those with some experience of disclosure and those who will be directly involved in preparing and reviewing non-sensitive, sensitive and highly sensitive schedules.
Virtual course sizes are normally limited to a maximum of 10 people to enable good facilitation of the course, and a chance for all participants to get involved.
