Course Information:
Those involved in criminal investigations may at some stage be required to undertake the role of disclosure officer. It is therefore imperative that officers are equipped with the essential skills to managed unused material, whether it is non-sensitive, sensitive or highly sensitive.
This one-day CPD accredited course has been designed for officers involved in criminal investigations, specifically those who act as disclosure officer as defined in the Criminal Procedure and Investigations Act (CPIA) 1996.
Too often failings in disclosure result in cases collapsing, miscarriages of justice or criticism from the courts. It is therefore vital that anyone involved in criminal investigations receives regular, comprehensive training on disclosure and the importance of getting it right first time.
The course will be delivered by our expert trainer Paul Keitch, who is an experienced disclosure officer and trainer. Paul is a retired Detective Sergeant who has continued in the law enforcement arena. He was a lead disclosure officer on Operation Stovewood, the investigation into historical sexual abuse in Rotherham. He is the disclosure officer for regional and local Trading Standards teams, dealing with offenders who target the vulnerable and elderly. He delivers training to a large number of organisations involved in criminal investigations and has advised on private prosecutions both in the UK and internationally.
The course is a one-day course and will begin at 09:30hours and end at 15:00hours.
The course can be delivered both virtually and in-person.
Audience:
This course has been designed for any individual who has responsibility for gathering material, conducting reasonable lines of enquiry in accordance with CPIA, and prosecuting criminal offences. This includes investigators, disclosure officers, intelligence officers, prosecuting lawyers, team leaders and managers. This course is particularly important for those individuals taking on the role of disclosure officer.
Whilst this course is suitable for those with limited experience of CPIA and the role of a disclosure officer, it may be beneficial for individuals to undertake our half day session (at a discounted price when booked together with this course) to obtain an overview of responsibilities.
This course is suitable for various levels of understanding and is equally suitable for those requiring a refresher. Any individuals required to prepare non-sensitive, sensitive and highly sensitive schedules should consider attending this course.
Virtual course sizes are normally limited to a maximum of 10 people to enable good facilitation of the course, and a chance for all participants to get involved.
